1 Arm Dumbbell Row 130's X 25 Reps

This video is of my buddy big Dave Ruel repping out the 130's for 25 reps per arm. Yes, I admit his form is not "super slow" and controlled, but non-the-less he is repping to failure and placing maximum muscle stress on his lats and will help to build some real strength and power.

Dave and I did a kick ass Total Fitness Bodybuilding Talk Show last night. It was a lot of fun, we were cracking jokes and having fun the whole time, in addition to answering a ton of great viewer questions.

  1. Impressive. The most I can do when not focusing of form is 105 lbs for about 15 reps.

  3. Yep, I used to do 150's for sets of 12's, but it is hard to get nice form, so I drop set to the 100's for slower controlled sets.

  4. great strength doing 130 pounds x 25.

But just waiting to hear that pop with all that jerking.

Exercise like this should be done with a controlled motion and the body should remain motionless.

Leave the jerking to the clean and jerk.

  5. That's not as impressive as you seem to think, but I'm now on the way to the gym after a three week layoff, and I'll see what I can do. I'm 71, and one of my exercises has been to do a "frozen" row for a ten count with a 125 pound dumbbell. By "frozen" I mean that I just hold it in place for the ten count. That' s the method I use for virtually all of my exercises. With this exercise, my problem has been that I can't always hold the dumbbell with my left hand for the ten count. However, I've been practicing at home with a Captains of Crunch gripper, and I'm hoping that my grip strength is now strong enough. I don't use grip supports. I'd rather strengthen my grip enough so that I don't need them.

  7. I WAS WRONG, VERY WRONG

A few hours ago, I made a posting here in which I made a few unintentional errors, and I need to correct them now.

    (1) I said that I had been doing a "frozen" row for a ten count with a 125 Lb. dumbbell. This was wrong because I soon realized that what I had been doing with that 125 Lb. dumbbell was a shrug, not a row. The difference is considerable, and I found that I was not capable of doing even one 125 Lb. row. So, I now have to join you in commending David Ruel's performance and apologizing for my own.

    (2) Despite my workouts with the Captains of Crunch gripper, my left-hand grip strength has not increased at all, and I was unable to hold
the 125 Lb dumbbell in my left hand for a ten count (sometimes I can and sometimes I can't).

Before today, my last visit to the gym was on October the 29th, so I did learn something else besides humility today. I learned that effective exercise frequency is counter-intuitive. I'm running out of space, so I'll only say that I gained nothing by using the Captains of Crunch gripper everyday, but my maximum overhead press and lateral pulldown was exactly the same after nearly a month off. I'm now thinking that perhaps two weeks between
workouts may be best for me to achieve maximum results.

PS: I couldn't post this the way I wanted to. A red sign stating "URL contains illegal characters" kept popping up, so I'm going to try using the anonymous address. It worked before. However, for the record, my name is Warren Jones and my URl is nikurashi@earthlink.net

  9. Hi guys

just wanted to add a small thought for those who seem to keep saying so what to these videos posted by Lee.Well there are those of us in this world who get a bit of inspiration seeing someone banging out a rep of 25 125lbs.For those who can already do it the "(71 above and also the 170lbs)" its great really.Clearly this video isn't for yo

As usual thanks for the tips Lee, working towards a physique i can someday maybe put up in your blog.

    Until then

    cheers

  11. Using straps will make it easier in that you won't lose your grip while doing the exercise. If Dave didn't use straps he wouldn't be able to hold onto the dumbbell for the entire set.

  12. Thanx for the videos.I really enjoy them. I am 51 and am struggling to get rid of my fat around the belly. The rest of my body is quite lean. Please provide some advice in losing the belly fat.
